Super Camp news
First off, many thanks to everyone who contributed to the bbq at the club last night! It was great to see everyone and we’ll have to make them more common! Anyone care to step up for another one sometime soon? Just let me know…
On the slopes our plan seems to be working out almost perfectly with the weather! Overcast and low visibility may have been the norm for the first 3 days of slalom but a lot was achieved with freeskiing drills and exercise courses in some challenging conditions. Then, for the higher speed of GS we were blessed with great visibility and conditions!
I am really impressed by the groups’ skills and their knowledge of the sport… this says a lot for the strength of the feeder programs – whether K1, E2 or J4 and Denis’ program with W/B ski school. And of course Christine Kohls anatomy quiz’s! Both Christine and Kayla have been great to work with and have been contributing plenty with their great knowledge, experience and enthusiasm for the sport!
I am also impressed by the athleticism of this group. In general a very fit and active group of athletes that make coaching them a pleasure… for the most part they have the strength, coordination and cognitive understanding of the skills we are working on and how to get down the hill efficiently and fast. This really showed in yesterday’s second session of GS where we set from the top of the steeper part of the slope and let them go – really just wanting to see how much of the technical skills we had been working on had ‘stuck’ or been patterned. Great stuff! And their efforts in dryland have been impressive as well.
As we look ahead the plan is as follows. You can check the hotline from time to time f(604-938-7855), but with the weather forecast we’ll likely be following this plan.
July 9 – SL. Drills, stubbies, brushes
Dryland 3:30 - Mountain biking. Meet at Lost Lake trailhead (Austria House – just over river from lot #4)
July 10 – SL drills, stubbies, few full gates
Dryland 3:30 – hike from club cabin
July 11 – SL drills and gates
Dryland 3:30 – Field work and soccer. Myrtle Philip lower field
July 12 – GS drills, stubbies, gates
Dryland 3:00 and 3:30 (split groups) – climbing. Meet base of Blackcomb climbing wall, pick up from the Core climbing gym (beside conference center).
July 13 – GS gates
Done! No dryland but I encourage a good long stretching session - 30 minutes minimum!
Note: Dryland sessions will generally be 1.5 hours in duration.
Any questions please email or my cell if urgent is 604-935-9172.
See you soon,
Rob Boyd
