Whistler Mountain Ski Club

Super camp summary

In the end I think we can all say the Blackcomb camp was an excellent start for the coming season. With six days of SL skills and drill courses and four days of GS work, plenty of fun in dryland – from mountain biking and hiking to climbing gym and field workouts (plus a few soccer games and capture the flag) – it was a good cross section of activities to complement the high volume on-snow work.

Many drills and exercises helped the crew to refine their techniques and get hungry for the gates. Funny thing is when one jumps back into gates too soon many of the old (unwanted) habits tend to come back, which means back to the drills. Patterning and solidifying the newly acquired skills comes through focused repetition with perfect technique. Watch a little video now and then, develop and use visualization skills to see and/or feel yourself skiing like the best in the world. Set some personal goals of what you would like to achieve by the end of the preparation period and you will be one big step ahead of the competition!  Many thanks to all the athletes for their superb efforts right to the last run. And a big thanks to Kayla and Christine for their great contributions and wealth of knowledge and experience! Your next anatomy course should be a breeze…

Looking ahead
Dryland training should be continued, preferably with a training partner following Dr. Oughtred’s program, which can be found online http://wmsc.info/news/article/?828  If you are doing these workouts on your own, challenge yourself to push your limits and get the most out of every exercise!
