Preamble

  • The success of this event will be measured by the quality of the organization. Focusing on race quality and the efforts to create an environment adapted to the needs of the athletes.
  • A separate national championship has been designed for the 15- and 16-year-old competitors from across Canada. The event was created in order to bridge the gap between juvenile (K2) and senior racing and provide a more attainable goal for success at a national level competition for competitors in their first two seasons of FIS racing.

Objectives

  • The Canadian J1 Championships allows its participants to measure themselves against the best provincial representatives of this age group.
  • To name the Canadian J1 champions (female and male) in the following three events: 1 SG, GS, and SL
  • To name the female and male overall champions
  • To name the provincial cup champion

The top-five J1 athletes in each discipline qualify for the Canadian Senior Championships to a max of 30. If less than 30 athletes qualify based on this method the remainder will be selected based on the overall standings.

Female J1 athletes having achieved a top-five result overall, male J1 athletes having achieved a top-10 result overall at any Nor-Am Cup race during the same competition year, or J1 athletes selected to represent Canada at the FIS Junior World Championships for the same competition year, qualifies directly for the Canadian Senior Championships without having to qualify at the Canadian J1 Championships.

The first overall winners of each discipline will qualify for an Alpine Canada Prospect Camp

(In case of calendar conflicts where Senior nationals are held prior to J1 nationals, each province may send a list of J1 athletes to Alpine Canada for entry consideration one month prior to Senior event.)

Entry into US Senior Nationals will follow the same qualification procedure as our Canadian Senior Championships.

Any athlete aged 15 and 16 years old on December 31 of the season of the Championships. All participants must be active members of Alpine Canada and hold a current, valid, national competitor card (Canadian Card) and FIS card or be a valid member of his/her national ski association.
