Nutrition Resources
Nutrition is just as important as your training sessions. Athletes who eat properly and get adequate rest are the athletes who are able to train and perform better. The saying “you are what you eat” might be adapted for the athlete to “you compete how you eat”. In addition, nutrition for adolescent athletes must allow for physical growth and development. Skiers train for endurance but then compete in sprints. Athletes with nutritional savvy follow these guidelines for healthy eating:
• Eat a wide variety of foods based on Canada’s Food Guide to Healthy Eating
• Balance food intake with energy needs to promote a healthy body weight
• Ensure proper fluid intake to maintain hydration and electrolyte balance
• Time food and fluid intake in relation to training and competition
