Volunteers & Race Officials

The Whistler Mountain Ski Club hosts several events annually including the Coast Zone K1 Speed Camp, the Coast Zone Parsons K2/J1 Speed Races, the International K1/K2 Sierra Wireless Whistler Cup Race Event, and the Canadian National Championships.  These races don't just happen, they require the help of every parent in the program. Many hands make light work, and many helpers make for more enjoyable helping. With this in mind read on...

If you would like to volunteer for club events, and gain experience and skills for 2010, we would love to have you join our great group of parents and alumni. We need help both on the ski hill and off. We are currently looking for volunteers to join many of our committees such as membership, communications, finance, fund-raising as well as volunteers for the Turkey Swap and Dinner Auction.  Register online and we will get in touch to tell you about the various opportunities to work on races and special events or contact the Board Director responsible for the committee.  We will also let you know about upcoming official's training courses. We appreciate your contribution to juvenile ski racing.

There are many faces to Volunteerism at the WMSC!

Olympic Volunteers Should Start Proving Their Commitment
from the Vancouver Sun by Nicholas Read
The Olympics are still more thant six years away, but that hasn't stopped an estimated 55,000 people from expressing an interest in volunteering for the 2010 Winter Games. That's more than twice as many volunteers as bid organisers think will be necessary, so those organisers have a piece of advice for potential candidates: Go out and volunteer for something now.

Trevor Miller, a spokesperson for 2010 Bid Corp. said with competition for spots expected to be keen, it's important that prospective candidates demonstrate not just a certain skill level, but a commitment to the whole ideal of volunteering. He's suggesting that serious candidates start volunteering now to prove that commitment, "It helps them get the skill sets for 2010 and it benefits the community as well", Miller said.
