Board Of Directors
This is Marty’s first year as chairman of the board.
Marty grew up in Kirkland Lake, Ontario where his family ran the local ski hill, ski shop and ski school. Growing up in in this environment he could not help developing a passion for skiing, running a ski and bike shop, racing and later teaching. Along the way he ended up becoming a maxillofacial surgeon, was blown away by Whistler, and ultimately settled in Vancouver. Marty fell in love at Whistler when he met Barbara at the Blackcomb light board and they got married a few years later at the base of Blackcomb. They have two children Eytan age 7 and Katrina in U16. Marty continues to enjoy skiing and remains a student of the sport. Becoming part of the enthusiastic, hard-working WMSC community has been a great experience.. Feel free to contact Marty.
Monique began her ski career in Ontario skiing at glamourous locales such as Loretto, Hockey Hills and Horseshoe Valley. Her racing career was short lived acting as the alternate for the local high school where she just had to stand up in case one of the real racers blew out. After university, Monique ventured to Whistler for her first experience skiing in real mountains where she met her husband Chris during his time at the "University of Whistler." Seven years later they got married at the top of Whistler on skis. Monique comes to the club armed with a wealth of skills related to marketing, marketing research and social media. She has a BSc from the University of Guelph and an MBA from Simon Fraser University with a specialization in Marketing. Monique has spent the past 20+ years helping Fortune 500 companies listen to their customers in order to make better business decisions. Monique will use these skills to enable WMSC listen to its membership, sponsors and other stakeholders to ensure the success of the club. Monique and her husband Chris live in North Vancouver with their three daughters – Natasha, Emma and Vera, all of whom have participated in WMSC programs.
Joze is in his third year as a board member of WMSC. However, he is not a stranger at WMSC.
Skiing is his greatest passion and it was also a career for Joze for over 30 years.
At a younger age he was an active ski racer. This, after studies at the University of Ljubljana, evolved to professional positions within the ski racing community.
In 1989 he was recruited as Program Director of WMSC from his Head Coach position with Yugoslav National Ski Team. A role he had for 13 years at the World Cup events and major events.
Joze, together with Jim Yeates and Max Meier, founded the Whistler Cup.
Alpine Canada Alpin hired Joze in 1996 as a Vice-President of Athletics. During his tenancy ACA transformed the Canadian Alpine Ski Team from a 19-member program, ranked 12th in the world to a top tier competitive program directly managing and supporting nearly 50 athletes. A transformation culminating with a winning team performance at the 2003 World Championships in St. Moritz featuring a World Championship Downhill gold medal - Melanie Turgeon and a Giant Slalom Silver Medal – Allison Forsyth. And a best ever team performance at World Championships.
Since 2003 Joze has been managing the Diamond Head Sports Company which imports and distributes internationally acclaimed sporting goods throughout North America.
Joze and his wife Mariana reside in Whistler, enjoying Whistler's active lifestyles. While their expatriate sons Anze and Ziga are living and working in Singapore and Melbourne.
This is Diane's third year on the board.
Diane's family joined WMSC in the 2013/14 ski season. She and her husband Richard have 2 sons participating in the club: Alexander (2002) and Nicholas (2004).
Diane learned to ski at the age of 3 when her father decided the entire family should take up the sport - in her home town of Winnipeg, Manitoba. As a member of the Winnipeg Ski Club, Diane started ski racing in the Nancy Greene Ski League at the age of 6 and continued on to become a member of the Manitoba Provincial Alpine Ski Team.
After spending her entire high school-aged years either travelling to BC, Alberta or Minnesota for ski races every weekend, she finally moved to Banff in 1983 and joined the Sunshine Ski Club. Ski racing ended abruptly due to a knee injury but she stayed in Banff long enough to be a ski tester for Rossignol during the 1988 Calgary Olympics. Immediately afterward, she moved to Whistler to take a job in the Blackcomb Race Department as Race Secretary helping to stage events like the Saudan Couloir Ski Race Extreme.
Life after full time skiing began in 1991. Diane earned BA and an LLB. She articled and was an associate with a large national law firm in Vancouver before she moved on to became Legal Counsel for a publicly traded Vancouver software company. After having Alexander, she spent a year organizing legal education conferences and since Nicholas arrived, she has been at home and held a variety of volunteer positions. The whole family recently relocated from Vancouver to become full-time Whistler residents.
This is Scott’s third year as a board member with WMSC. Scott grew up on the North shore of Vancouver and developed a passion for skiing and racing at an early age. He continued on in the sport to compete and coach for many years. Scott is a national ski team alumni, former Provincial head coach, former Level 3 CSCF course conductor and holds a Level 4 instructor/level 3 coach qualifications.

This is Corrie’s third year on the WMSC Board.
Corrie Paulsen has been volunteering for WMSC events for the past 7 years. Corrie is a previous “Gate Buster”, and was involved in the Masters' program at the club in her life before Child. She skied with Myles in her belly until she couldn’t fit into any family members ski pants any more, and is sure Myles was born making turns as a result. Corrie gets great pleasure from seeing the smiles on our Kids faces and squeals of delight when they’ve achieved a great goal on the course, or taken face shots on a powder day.
Corrie’s background is in Sales and Marketing, having spent 25 years as a Professional Sales Representative with 3M Canada. When she’s not at work, she’s having fun out hiking with her dog Hobbes, or creating Myles' favourite meals.
Born and raised in North Vancouver, Jason learned to ski at Rainbow Resort in Whistler at age 3. Growing up, winter weekends and holidays were spent in Whistler skiing. Summers were spent riding dirt bikes and fishing in the Sechelt Inlet, on the Sunshine Coast of BC.
Jason's been around ski racing all his life but it was bike racing that became his true passion as he worked through his undergraduate degree at UBC. He raced both mountain and road bikes at the PRO/Elite level for the better part of a decade and transitioned into a career in wealth management in 2002.
Along the way, Jason spent several winters in the Austrian Alps as a ski instructor and ended up coming home with an Austrian wife. Jason also worked in the mineral exploration industry for a number of years with the Geological Survey of Canada and some of North America’s largest mining companies.
Jason has been married to his wife Brigitte since 1997 and they have called Whistler home since 1994. They have two sons racing with the WMSC: Matthias (2003) is a U14 and Felix (2005) is a U12.
The entire family is passionate about the outdoors and spend their time away from the ski hill hiking and biking.
This is Patrick’s first year on the WMSC Board.
Patrick spent his childhood in Thunder Bay Ont. where he raced in a Nancy Greene league and watched original Crazy Canuck Dave Irwin ski. Realizing that a career as a ski racer and/or a rock star were nonstarters he became a Chartered Accountant.
Patrick has degrees from the University of Windsor and the University of Western Ontario, and spent three years attending schools in Switzerland and France. He occasionally found time to break away from his studies and explore many of the fine ski resorts in the Swiss, French and Italian Alps.
In the eighties, while working in the Toronto taxation group of Touché Ross, an epiphany lead Patrick to buy a one-way plane ticket, put his car on a train, and move to Vancouver, where for over 25 years Patrick has been a Portfolio Manager with RBC Dominion Securities.
For the past 17 years Patrick has been a proud member of the Whistler Weasel Workers where he served as past president, worked many World Cup races, World Championships, and the Olympics in Whistler. Patrick is a level three race official.
His daughter is a second year U12 (2005) and her younger brother loves to ski and spend time in Whistler. When Patrick met his wife Susan she was a snowboarder. Susan converted to skiing, Patrick proposed and the rest is history!
During the off season, Patrick and his family spend time at their cabin on the Sunshine Coast, and enjoy boating through the BC coastal waters.

This is Sarah’s first year on the WMSC Board.
Sarah has been a skier all her life starting out on the modest runs of the Ontario escarpment then moving to BC’s Coastal mountains in 2008 when the Renzoni family first joined Cypress Ski Club. Sarah has been on the side of a race-course for almost 15 years, cheering on her 3 kids who have all raced as soon as they could get a bib on! Mark and Sarah joined WMSC in 2009-10 season as their eldest child, Charlie was impressed with the coaching and fellow racers he met while a guest racer in the WMSC summer camps. Charlie and then brother Griffin each raced up to the end of Grade 12, competing hard as FIS level racers and excelling academically. Ella is now in her first year FIS and with her brothers away at university is thrilled to be the sole user of the tuning bench!
Sarah’s professional experience has been in packaged goods promotion and marketing, yet since the move to BC, has focused on her volunteering. Prior to the Renzoni family’s switch to WMSC, Sarah was on the Board at Cypress Ski Club.
Sarah has worn many different volunteer hats at WMSC and thoroughly appreciates the life-long friends and families she has made through ski racing.
Director – Legal
This is John’s second year on the WMSC Board.
John grew up in Vancouver, skiing weekends out of his family’s vintage Whistler A-Frame. After completing undergraduate studies, John moved east for law school and ended up on Bay Street, but it didn’t take long to make the lifestyle choice & move back to Vancouver. After a decade of a seemingly weekly trip back and forth on the Sea to Sky Highway, John & his wife Sarah moved to Whistler full-time eight years ago, and hasn’t stopped to look back since.
John & Sarah have two overactive boys, Rowland and Thomas. Row is in U14 program, and Tom is looking forward to racing with WMSC.
When not skiing, biking, golfing or acting as the family taxi service, John provides legal and business consulting services to development stage resource companies, and serves as a director on the boards of several public and private entities. John holds a BA from UBC and a JD from the Schulich School of Law.

Bill and his wife Jen have one U14 athlete (Maggie) in the WMSC. Bill grew in the Montreal area and spent his time skiing & snowboarding at his “home hill” in Jay Peak in Vermont. He is thankful that he grew up in an era where phones did not have cameras.
He is a faculty member at UBC with exercise physiology as his teaching and research focus. He is excited to join the Board and try to help out with athlete development. He is a former middle-distance runner with experience in amateur sport.
When not working, Bill can be found in Whistler either skiing or biking. All members of his family continue to outperform him on the ski slopes but he is happy they still let him tag along.
