U16 Program

The U16 program is designed for 14 and 15 year old ski racers, building on past experiences and further developing their mental, physical and technical skills. We consider the age group to be the "learn to train" phase of their development.

U16 Lead Coach David Prades

TRAIN TO TRAIN – The U16 program is designed for 14 and 15 year old ski racers, building on past experiences and further developing their mental, physical and technical skills. Training is primarily on weekends and holidays from early December to mid April with extended training opportunities on Thursdays and Fridays.  The experienced, professional staff will encourage clear communication of goals and provide appropriate challenges through free-skiing, drills, and training environments that often mimic race situations.  Through more self-reflection and use of log books/journals athletes will learn to link their outcomes with their preparations, working towards more autonomy and responsibility for their actions.

Athletes will compete in provincial races, zone events, and Whistler Cup.  U16 athletes have more racing and selection camp opportunities but racing is primarily during the weekends with a few mid-week travel/training days. Overall, U16 athletes are focused on training to race as they prepare for F.I.S. competition. Fitness becomes a key component in U16 with sessions in Whistler and online.  Summer sessions are available in week-long/weekend camps and run through the summer and late autumn period in Whistler.

If you have any quesitons, pleases email David Prades, U16 Lead Coach at david@wmsc.info
