Dave Murray National Training Centre (DMNTC)

The DMNTC is a world-class training facility for Alpine Skiing, Snowboarding and Freestyle, built on the legacy of the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in Whistler, BC. Here, on the Raven Ptarmigan run, we have created the venue for preparing today’s shining athletes for tomorrow’s world stage.

With a training season starting on December 15th and extending to April 15th, the DMNTC maximizes the number of training days per year. Designed for speed and excellence, the steep pitches, rolling flats and numerous start ramps are ideal for challenging the best athletes as well as for basic skills training.  Designed by Rob Boyd, the DMNTC is covered by state of the art snow-making technology, then groomed to perfection by the best snow-cats and drivers in the industry. The attention to detail and an understanding of the training needs of athletes, sets the DMNTC apart from other alpine facilities.

Dave Murray was not only a fearless downhill ski racer and member of the Crazy Canucks, he played an integral part in developing ski racing in Whistler through the 1980′s. After retiring from ski racing in 1982, he went on to become the Director of Skiing for Whistler Mountain and later established the Dave Murray Ski School. Dave Murray was dedicated to nurturing young ski racers and his passion remains a legacy through the ski community in Whistler and beyond. When time came to name the new training centre on Whistler Mountain, there was no doubt that the training centre would be named in Dave Murray’s honour to remain as a legacy for future ski racers to come.

As the Vancouver 2010 Bid Committee began preparing the bid for the 2010 Winter Olympic games, the Canadian Snowsport Association (CSA) undertook discussions with the Bid Committee and Intrawest to include a legacy training centre in Whistler. With the successful bid of the Vancouver Whistler games in 2004, the Vancouver Olympic Committee (VANOC), Whistler Blackcomb, and the CSA banded together to ensure that the legacy training centre would come to fruition. With Whistler Blackcomb’s commitment to dedicate the Raven Ptarmigan run to the training centre, an agreement was solidified for the handover of gear and safety equipment from the Olympic games. After the Olympic Games, the partially completed Raven Ptarmigan run needed to be completed to finish the training centre. The Dave Murray Society was formed in order to oversee the management of sponsorship funds, its assets, and management.  Combined with sponsorship from Silver Wheaton, and contribution from Whistler Blackcomb, the training centre was completed in 2012. The management of the training centre has been contracted to the Whistler Mountain Ski Club.
