Amie Chu
Director at Large
Amie grew up on the east coast, in Hamilton, Ontario where the closest hill was 3 hours away at Blue Mountain, and where she learned how to snowboard as a teen. She met her husband when they were both grad students at Stanford University. Mark’s from Singapore—a tropical island, with no skiing in sight—and while dating, she got to teach him how to ride on the slopes of Tahoe. Mark is still on a board today, while Amie switched over to learning how to ski when the kids got old enough and wanted to ski instead.
After graduating, Amie moved to Singapore where she and Mark lived for six years, then on to Shanghai for work. Amie was a management consultant with McKinsey & Company, getting the opportunity to travel all over Asia to work with everything from family-owned businesses to multi-national conglomerates. Neither place was home to any kind of skiing (except for the indoor kind!), so they spent their holidays in Japan/Niseko. Timo (U16) was born in Shanghai, Oliver in Singapore (last year was in U14), and Phoebe (brand new to U12 this year) in North Vancouver. Timo and Oli both started with Grouse Tyee while they were still living in North Vancouver when they were 8 and 6 years old, respectively; and when the family made the move full time to Whistler in 2020, they started with the WMSC. Timo and Oli are both at Whistler Secondary and Phoebe at Myrtle Philip. Amie's club volunteering has focused on the timing side - first manual and then in the warm timing hut learning the ropes from Henry and the team.
Amie is a Senior Partner today with Korn Ferry, a global executive recruiting firm, where she focuses on technology companies across North America, recruiting C-suite and Board members; and where she leads the Vancouver office as managing partner.
